Focusing on the spatial and temporal distribution, leaching characteristics, and toxicity effects of microplastics and their additives in several rivers in Shenzhen, she systematically analyzes the physical, chemical, and biological properties of microplastics and the leaching behaviors of additives by applying material characterization techniques (e.g., scanning electron microscope SEM, transmission electron microscope TEM, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry FTIR, etc.) and chemical analytical methods (LC-MS/MS). The leaching performance of the additives was analyzed systematically. A number of experimental protocols were designed and optimized to evaluate the performance and toxicity of microplastics under different conditions.
