Dr. Jong is a Malaysian Chinese from Borneo. She obtained her PhD in Environmental Engineering at Newcastle University, United Kingdom, focusing on the fate of antibiotic resistance genes and bacteria under sequential redox conditions within biofilm reactors. After obtaining doctorate study in the UK (2020), she returned to Southeast Asia and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National University of Singapore under the NUS Environmental Research Institute (2020-2022), where her work focused on interdisciplinary research in environment, public health, and ecological health. She joined Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SlGs) in October 2022 as an Assistant Professor. Her research aligns with the One Health Framework, looking at the fate and impacts of waterborne emerging pollutants on population health (e.g. microplastics, organic pollutants, antimicrobial resistance, health-related water microbiology), pre-emptive risk assessment framework, and energy-efficient wastewater treatment technologies for decentralised pollution control. Her work aims to protect ecosystems and human health while offering practical insights and solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
